Its goal is to help homeowners and businesses in Massachusetts save energy. They provide tools, rebates, and information to help homeowners make smart choices about making energy efficient choices.
What is the Mass Save Heat Pump Rebate? What is the Mass Save Mini Split Rebate?
The Mass Save heat pump rebate, sometimes also called the Mass Save Mini Split Rebate, is one of the biggest heat pump incentive program in the state. They offer two main types of rebates - for air source and geothermal heat pumps.
Air Source Heat Pump Mass Save Rebate
If you're a customer of one of the eligible utility companies and you hire a qualified contractor to install a qualified air-source heat pump to heat and cool your entire home, you're likely eligible for up to a $10,000 rebate, and some homeowners are income eligible for $16,000 in rebates.
Geothermal Heat Pump Mass Save Rebate
If your home meets specific weatherization requirements, you're a customer of one of the eligible utility companies, and you hire a qualified contractor to install a qualified geothermal heat pump to heat and cool your entire home, you're likely eligible for a $15,000 rebate, some homeowners are income eligible for $25,000 in rebates.
What is the Mass Save Air Conditioner Rebate?
Mass Save provides a $40 rebate for Energy Star Qualified Room AC units and up to $16,000 for air source heat pumps - which function as both heating and cooling systems.
What is the Mass Save Furnace Rebate or Mass Save Boiler Rebate?
The Mass Save program no longer provides rebates for high efficiency furnace and boilers as thsose rebates ended in 2024.
What is a Mass Save HEAT Loan?
A Mass Save ® Heat Loan is 7 year, 0% interest-free loan of up to $50,000 to homeowners looking to improve the energy efficiency of their owner-occupied home and can be used to replace drafty windows, upgrading an outdated heating and cooling system or more.
What are the 2025 Mass Save Rebate Changes?

Starting in 2025, rebates will be calculated based on a per-ton basis rather than flat rates. The standard for whole-home Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) will now offer $3,000 per ton, up to a cap of $10,000 per home. The change from flat-rate rebates can significantly impact homeowners with smaller properties, particularly those under 1,200 square feet who may receive less than the $10,000 rebate compared to larger homes.

The popular 0% interest Mass Save HEAT Loan program will see a reduction in loan repayment terms for most income brackets. While households earning 81%-135% of the state median income (SMI) will continue to qualify for 7-year loans, those earning more will only be eligible for shorter terms of 5 or 3 years. This will lead to significantly higher monthly payments.

Heat pump rebates will continue to decrease on an annual basis after 2025, meaning this year is the best time to maximize your savings. For example, the rebate for whole-home Air-Source heat pumps will decrease to $2,700 per ton in 2026 and $2,500 per ton in 2027.
